Southern Solar Smart Stuff
Aussie way to recycle solar panels
A very quick note just to prove I haven’t shuffled off just yet. Also, ironically, I found this on EuroNews:
This is good news for the silicon solar photovoltaic industry because it means one of the primary objections to their panels can now be overcome, i.e. instead of going straight into landfill, there’s now a mechanism to recycle them.
As usual, it seems to have been mega-soft-pedaled here in the good old Antipodes, but it serves as a nice counterbalance to the prevailing media thrust of painting Australia as still stuck in LNP repressive conservative anti-progress days of the LNP Coalition. We need to ditch that image and start doing more to ensure that we get seen as the innovators that we are.
Also, just look at this shit that our media publicises here. Why is it that they want to promote the view that we need to launch it, using rockets that totally f*ck the environment, rather than just doing the obvious and just biting the bullet and effing well recycling stuff????
It’s almost as though there was a conspiracy out there to make anything less than totally eradicating everything on the planet was unacceptable. Maybe there’s a sly nod to calling it “The Anthropocene.” Maybe it’s US that are being ‘ocened.
UPDATE: At least the supermarkets here are going to (finally!) going to accept some responsibility for some of their waste, and re-start the soft plastic recycling scheme they left Redcycle stuck with and seemingly never offered to lift a single dollar to assist. Now they’re either going to warehouse the stuff until they’re ‘forced’ to landfill or burn it (again) or maybe suck in some other start-up to try (again), (probably) fail (again) and then get told to landfill or burn the bags. (again.) But people are seeing that “token efforts = bad” and “recycling = good” so maybe we’ll see the tide finally turn.
Git offa what’s left of me lawn.
